Italy-Liguria-Badalucco

Behind the town of Taggia in Liguria, away from the umbrella dotted beaches, lie the mountains and valleys of Liguria, where villages perch on craggy hilltops and olive groves rustle in gentle winds.

One such valley, famous for its small green-and-brown olives, is home to people who, for centuries, have cultivated terraces of fruit trees and vines. Many of their towns have become favorite holiday destinations for foreign and Italian tourists alike, in part for their picturesque setting and in part for the many outdoor activities available.

Within a very short distance you can bike, trek, hike, ride horses and even go rally car racing. In fact the original San Remo Rally used to go through here. The region is also ideal for buying some local produce, such as delicate and fragrant olive oil, light and sparkling wines, and fresh fruit.

If you are adventurous you can head up from Taggia to Badalucco and then on to Montalto, over the pass to Borgomaro and finally arive at the old sea town of Imperia.

One great places to eat and stay the night is the Locanda “La Finistrella” in Montalto – where Gianni and his English wife Stephanie will give you a great welcome!
